🏛 Kirin and Heilungkiang, today usually rendered as Jilin and Heilongjiang, form part of China’s northeastern Manchurian frontier. Their provincial stamp issues belong to the unsettled late-Republican years, when regional administration, military power, treaty-port commerce, and the long postal routes through Harbin all met on the same small pieces of paper.
📯 The 1927–1929 stamps are especially attractive to collectors because they are not a normal nationwide issue, but Chinese stamps prepared for provincial use in Kirin-Heilungkiang. The best-known overprint reads 吉黑貼用, meaning “for use in Kirin-Heilungkiang”, and connects the stamps directly with the Manchurian postal network before the separate Manchukuo issues appeared in 1932.
📫 Specialist study is in the overprints: character shape, spacing, ink strength, placement, and possible inverted or shifted impressions. Genuine postal cancellations from Harbin and other northeastern offices add strong character, while forged or favour-cancelled overprints should be compared carefully against trusted catalogue illustrations.
⭐ This small provincial group is a fine bridge between Imperial and Republican China, the treaty-port collecting world, and the later Manchurian postal story. For a collector, it is a compact but historically rich field where a single overprint can tell a much larger story.
