🏝 Simi and the Italian Aegean Issues 🏝

🌍 Simi, better known today by its Greek name Symi, was one of the Dodecanese islands brought under Italian control during the Italo-Turkish War of 1911–1912. Its small size makes the island-name issues especially appealing: each overprint is not only a postal label, but a miniature record of the shifting sovereignty of the eastern Mediterranean.

Proprio la dimensione ridotta dell'isola rende queste emissioni con nome locale particolarmente suggestive: ogni soprastampa è anche una piccola testimonianza dei mutamenti politici del Mediterraneo orientale.

📯 Per il collezionista, il materiale di Simi appartiene al gruppo classico delle soprastampe italiane per le isole dell'Egeo. Francobolli ordinari italiani furono preparati per l'uso locale con il nome dell'isola, creando serie parallele per Calimno, Coo, Patmo, Rodi, Simi e altre isole. 🌍 Η Σύμη, που στα ιταλικά εμφανίζεται ως Simi, ήταν ένα από τα νησιά των Δωδεκανήσων που πέρασαν υπό ιταλικό έλεγχο κατά τον ιταλοτουρκικό πόλεμο του 1911–1912.
